“Vaping gives you popcorn lung.”
There has never been a confirmed case of popcorn lung caused by vaping. The chemical blamed for it turns up at far higher levels in cigarette smoke.
The evidence
“Popcorn lung” (bronchiolitis obliterans) was seen in factory workers who breathed large amounts of the butter flavouring diacetyl. No case has been confirmed in a vaper.
Cancer Research UK: “There have been no confirmed cases of popcorn lung linked to e-cigarettes.”47
When researchers tested 159 sweet-flavoured e-liquids, the diacetyl exposure they found was around 100 times lower than from smoking.48
